KNOT Design & Build is a dynamic and innovative consultant and design firm committed to transforming your vision into reality. With a blend of creativity, craftsmanship, and cutting-edge expertise, we specialize in delivering exceptional construction and design solutions.
Project Description:
Our firm had the privilege of serving as design consultants for UN Women in developing specialized Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Courts across multiple cities in Pakistan. These courts were envisioned as safe, dignified, and functional spaces where survivors could seek justice without intimidation or discomfort.
Our role began with comprehensive site surveys of courtroom areas allocated by UN Women. The focus was to propose and implement a design strategy that integrated the traditional formality of courtrooms with the emotional and psychological needs of victims. We achieved this balance by incorporating:
Color & Materials
- A refined color palette of neutral tones is complemented by bold accents like deep blues and warm browns. The use of high-quality wood, textured walls, and glass partitions enhances the sense of elegance and openness.
Courtroom authenticity:
- Use of rich woodwork on wall elevations, raised podiums for judges, and defined witness boxes.
Victim-centered comfort:
- Design solutions ensuring privacy, accessibility, and an environment that reduces trauma triggers.
Functional flow:
- Thoughtful spatial planning for lawyers, judges, victims, and staff to ensure efficiency without compromising sensitivity.
Inclusive design:
- Consideration for gender-sensitive facilities, waiting areas, and supportive seating arrangements.
Benefits of the New Space:
- This project reflects our commitment to human-centered design, proving that built environments can play a vital role in delivering justice with dignity. Through this initiative, we contributed to creating courtrooms that not only uphold law but also promote compassion, safety, and trust.
